Sino Property Services & Hong Chi Association jointly present another green initiative, Mission Green Thumb

Sino Property Services (SPS) and Hong Chi Association (HCA) collaborate again with the launch of a new seedling adoption programme, Mission Green Thumb. The initiative encourages Sino tenants to join hands with Hong Chi trainees to develop a greener environment in commercial buildings. By training people with intellectual disabilities as organic farming professionals, the project also promises employment opportunities.

The initial phase of will be first launched in Exchange Tower and Skyline Tower, and gradually extended to Far East Finance Centre, Hong Kong Pacific Centre, 148 Electric Road and other SPS properties.

The Mission Green Thumb programme officially commenced at Exchange Tower today. In the company of Hong Chi trainees, Mr Sunny Yeung, Executive Director of Sino Group and Head of SPS, Mr Allan Chan, Associate Director (Leasing) of Sino Group, Mrs Mable Harvey, Chairman of Services Management Committee, HCA, and Miss Kathy Chow, Mission Green Thumb Ambassador jointly officiated the opening ceremony by watering seedlings together to signify how the project brings growth to environment and community.

Over 300 seedlings adopted by enthusiastic tenants

Mr Sunny Yeung, Executive Director of Sino Group and Head of SPS said, “Mission Green Thumb is a meaningful programme that offers Sino tenants the opportunity to cultivate green living habits and benefit the community. We are very pleased to receive with the excellent response received from tenants of Exchange Tower and Skyline Tower. Over 300 seedlings have already been adopted since the programme launch. We will continue to promote the programme and encourage more tenants to join.”

Mrs Mable Harvey, Chairman of Services Management Committee, HCA, thanked SPS for again inviting Hong Chi trainees to create a greener and caring environment, saying, “Hong Chi trainees organically nursed seedlings for adoption. Our trainees help the tenants maintain the adopted seedlings and also share their organic farming skills with them. We hope tenants offer support, enabling more people with intellectual disabilities receive training and employment opportunities and ultimately recognising their abilities and contribution to a greener environment."

Donate HK$100 for seedling adoption and green privileges

The tenant is entitled to adopt and name a seedling for the year for every donation of HK$100 in the name of an individual or company. All the proceeds, without any administrative charge deducted, will be donated to HCA so more trainees can be trained as gardening and organic farming professionals. In addition, tenants are entitled to enjoy green privileges and a series of innovative ecological activities, including a night adventure in Mai Po, coral sightseeing on a glass-bottomed boat, organic strawberry farming, a visit at organic farmland Hong Chi Homestead and the monthly sale of organic farm products by HCA.

Sino Group and SPS are committed to promoting environmental protection. Mission Green Thumb is their second community collaboration with HCA, following the success of Mission Green Top in 2008. Mission Green Top comprises a rooftop garden, with a floor area over 100 sq. m., developed in Skyline Tower that is greatly appreciated by tenants. The project received the Outstanding Partnership Project Award 2009/10 from the Hong Kong Council of Social Service in March this year. To further spread the green message, SPS launched the 7 July Mission "Everyday No Plastic Bags" and "Reduce Use of Plastic Umbrella Bags" Campaign in its shopping malls, and also co-organised the Sino Green Academy – Students' Green Ambassador Programme.
