Sino Group's Skyline Tower wins prestigious environmental award

Demonstrating excellence in "Programme and Performance", "Partner Synergy” and “Green Leadership", Skyline Tower received the "2009 Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence, Sectoral Awards (Property Management) – Bronze Award". Six other properties, namely HK Pacific Centre, Island Resort, Pacific Palisades, Sino Plaza, Tuen Mun Town Plaza and Vision City clinched the "2010 Hong Kong Award for Environmental Excellence, Sectoral Awards (Property Management) – Certificate of Merit". Sino properties also received 36 "Wastewi$e Labels", 3 "Energywi$e Labels" and 9 "IAQwise Labels" (please refer to the attached list).

Mr Sunny Yeung, Executive Director of Sino Group and Head of Sino Property Services (SPS) said, "The awards we won recognise our staff's hard work. These awards also demonstrated SPS's persistence towards environmental protection. We focus our green initiatives on motivating partners and customers to get involved and to raise awareness in society. We believe by bringing the message to our customers in a simple and subtle way, the public will naturally join the green force. Our ultimate goal is to make environmental protection part of everyone's life."

Skyline Tower's all-round green designs are complemented by its environmentally-aware property management team. Last year Skyline Tower launched the pilot "Mission Green Top" initiative with the Hong Chi Association to organically cultivate plants and vegetables in a rooftop garden maintained by Hong Chi trainees. Regular sales of the garden's harvest are held. Tenants are encouraged to visit the garden and share their gardening experience with the trainees. The project undoubtedly helps to promote a greener environment in office towers, and also provides employment opportunities to people with intellectual disabilities, and therefore won the "Partnership Project Award" of "Caring Company" organized by The Hong Kong Council of Social Service. Furthermore, Skyline Tower is one of the pilot buildings for the Environment Bureau's "Carbon Audit Guidelines", a series of measures launched to reduce carbon emissions.

SPS constantly develops new green initiatives, including the Students’ Green Ambassador Programme, in which SPS's Green Ambassadors acted as mentors to students, who conducted carbon audits at four green Sino Group properties and proposed suggestions for further improvements. New energy-saving equipment was also installed such as a fresh water-cooled central chiller system that saved millions of dollars on electricity. An automatic condenser tube cleaning system saves a further 10% to 30% electricity. SPS supported the "Save Food Day Campaign" and promoted the recycling of used cooking oil into biodiesel too. The company also implemented source separation on domestic waste and installed energy-saving T5 fluorescent tubes.
