SPS launches 'Sino Cleaning Academy – Living Clean Living Green' programme to promote hygiene and green awareness to Sino residents

Sino Property Services (SPS) takes the lead in promoting hygiene and green awareness to its residents by launching the "Sino Cleaning Academy – Living Clean Living Green" programme. Under the programme, Best Result Cleaning Services (BRCSL), SPS's flagship company, is dispatching veteran instructors to teach a comprehensive household cleaning course to relevant household members (including housewives, maids and household assistants). The course specially emphasises eco-cleaning and the safety aspects of various cleaning tasks. The programme will first be launched in Island Resort, One Silver Sea, Mount Beacon, Pacific Palisades and Vision City starting this month, and will expand to more residential properties in 2010.

"Sino Cleaning Academy – Living Clean Living Green" programme's opening ceremony was held at Island Resort this afternoon, officiated by Mr Lee Cheuk-yan, Legislative Councillor and General Secretary of The Hong Kong Confederation of Trade Unions (HKCTU), Mr Jimmy Yuen, Senior Consultant of Occupational Safety and Health Council, and Mr Terence Ng, General Manager of Best Result Cleaning Services Limited. Over 70 residents joined the programme today.

Mr Terence Ng said, "We emphasise thorough training to maintain our service quality. Taught by our experienced operation managers, the 'Sino Cleaning Academy – 8-hour Professional Cleaning' programme was set up in July to share knowledge about various cleaning techniques. New cleaning appliances and related safety usage guides were introduced by professional consultants; while in-house quality management, safety and customer services training are also incorporated in the programme."

"Today, over two hundred cleaning supervisors have completed the 'Sino Cleaning Academy – 8-hour Professional Cleaning' Programme. They become Cleaning Ambassadors and help promote awareness of hygiene among the frontline cleaners and residents. In view of resident concerns about influenza and community hygiene, we have tailored a simplified version of the Academy named the 'Sino Cleaning Academy – Living Clean Living Green' programme to share knowledge about household hygiene and eco cleaning."

Mr Lee Cheuk-yan, Legislative Councillor and General Secretary of HKCTU said, "Society has a strong demand for cleaning services. Over the years, HKCTU has made intensive efforts to retrain under-skilled labour and helped them to re-enter the workforce. The 'Sino Cleaning Academy – 8-hour Professional Cleaning' programme has positively influenced the professionalism of the industry. In collaboration with the HKCTU training centre, free seats are offered to trainees to acquire more industrial knowledge and skills. Upon completion of the programme, the trainees are given the opportunity to become BRCSL staff members. We hope that more enterprises can provide this kind of programme to offer our trainees more learning and employment opportunities, and to improve the quality of cleaning services of the industry."

Mr Jimmy Yuen, Senior Consultant of the Occupational Safety and Health Council, said, "Many household and estates accidents result from the lack of safety awareness among residents. The 'Sino Cleaning Academy – Living Clean Living Green' programme provided by BRCSL delivers a serious message in simple language. It helps to enhance the knowledge of occupational safety among the residents and their domestic helpers and household assistants. We believe this will help reduce household accidents."

BRCSL also attaches great importance to staff awareness of occupational safety. Ng said, "Cleaning services operate at great heights, use large scale equipment, and handle dangerous chemicals. We make sure our staff are familiar with all relevant aspects of occupational health and safety. In 2005, BRCSL has obtained the OHSAS 18001 certificate for occupational safety and health management system. Over 100 cleaning supervisors have completed the in-house 'Construction Industry Safety Training Certificate (Green Card) Course'. Moreover, we signed the 'Occupational Safety Charter' jointly administered by the Labour Department and the Occupational Health and Safety Council yesterday and committed to fully implementing occupational safety measures under the charter at all levels."
